The King, Dionysius, proclaimed Damon a traitor, has him seized, and condemns him to death.

"Behold this proud, assassinating demagogue!"he exclaimed;his bravery returned at seeing his assailant in the grip of two strong men. " He whets his dagger in philosophy, this pupil of the cutthroat school! His last deed is done, however. For here we do condemn him to a public death ; and from his blood will we mix a rare cement to our monarchy!"
