At the end, Trotter says, "That all that stuff about happy endings is lies. The only ending in this world is death. Now that might or might not be happy, but either way, you ain't ready to die yet, are you?" What does she mean by this? What is she trying to make Gilly realize?

I think the theme here is that, although death eventually comes to everybody, living life to the fullest while alive brings meaning to it.
