I think you are asking a thematic question here; what was Shakespeare trying to say? I suppose one of the basic themes of the play is the irrationality of love. Looking for love and falling in love clouds the judgment even the most practical of people. Love is not logical; it is a messy concoction of emotions, sexual desire, illusions of grandeur and whatever else the human mind has to throw into the mix.
