Grayson is a very important character in the novel. His childhood was similar to Maniac's in that they were both abandoned by accidents..... Maniac literally, Grayson through neglect. They both head out on their own at a young age, and they've both struggled to survive. Because Grayson is an adult, as well as the fact he survived a similar childhood, he is the perfect person to identify with and help Maniac.... they're perfect for each other.
