This is a bit of dramatic irony here. Both Duncan and Banquo are reflecting on how sweet and gentle the air seems around Macbeth's castle when L. macbeth and macbeth are planning to kill Duncan that very night. Banquo notes that the gentle Martlet (bird) feels safe making a nest there.
