LORD OF THE FLIES

The Scar is the swath of destruction down the side of the island. Golding had set up this island as an Eden-like paradise. The crash of the plane causes the only sign of imperfection on the island. The scar symbolizes both the destruction and the fall of man, or in this case, boys.
