In chapter 2 what is ironic about lighting a fire? What do you think it and the drum roll represent

The fire is supposed to be a signal fire but they unleash a monster that they can't control. The fire devours the top of the island. I think the drum role represents the path of chaos and turmoil the boys have now gone down.
