Simon is compelled to seek out the truth. He is well aware the "beast" doesn't exist, but he has no way of convincing the others. His experience and seizure have given him a kind mystical or even religious experience, and his confrontation with the "Lord of the Flies," can be perceievd as the ultimate battle between good and evil.
