Orange is prevalent throughout the story as a symbol of survival. There is the orange cat that Pi thinks of, in his future, just as the Tsimtsum sinks. There is Richard Parker the tiger. Ironically Richard Parker can kill Pi but becomes a source of strength and survival instead. Orange Juice the orangutan who provides an emotional support just being an animal that is most like Pi.
