Lazarillo de Tormes is considered one of the early examples of the genre known as picaresque novel. This is really a novella that often uses first person narrative focusing on adventure as well as opposing injustice. This novella focuses on Lazarillo, an underdog or anti-hero, who is becomes an apprentice to a blind beggar. He slowly learns about the world and rises above what he was born into.
