How does the title of the story prove to be an ironic one?

The irony lies in the fact that she had romantic feelings for Gouvernail that a respectable married woman shouldn't have. Also we wonder if she actually has "overcome" her feelings when she changes her mind and is eager for Gouvernail to return.
