Describe Irene's reaction to the “take over” midway through the text. How does this alter how you interpret the story?
Irene doesn't really have a reaction..... she isn't afraid, she merely says.....
"In that case," she said, picking up her knitting again, "we'll have to live on this side."
Irene's response is a bit confusing. It does, however, also give the reader a sense of relief.
