Do u agree or disagree with this assumption??

One of the assumptions that the characters ( especially the professor ) make in the novel is the scientific exploration is worth the time,resources, effort and dangers simply because of the discoveries that can be made.

This is really asking for your opinion rather than mine. Personally, I think that (at this point) our planet is in such peril that we need ways of saving it rather than adventure discoveries. The story, however, was written in a different era.
