How did Karma finally get away from the island and how do you think she felt as she watched the island of the Blue Dolphins shrink into the horizon?
A ship comes with men who are there to hunt otters. Karana leaves with the ship and sails with them to the mainland, where she later goes to live at the Mission Santa Barbara. I think her last glimpse of the island was bittersweet. She reflects fondly on “all the happy days” she had on the island with her pets (173). Dolphins swim alongside the boat as she looks to the future.
