Why had Fischer's and Hall's companies come in conflict with one another over Jon krakauer?

Both companies lobbied for Krakauer to make the climb at Everest. Initially, Krakauer agreed to accompany Fischer's guide service, but an offer from Hall and the magazine led him to change his mind.
