Why is Chris not really wanting or accepting anyone's help?
In the first several chapters, he doesn't really want anyone's help or care when they offer.

Chris is rebelling against the world and trying to prove he doesn't need help...... that he can get by on his own. Thus, he refuses all help from everyone in his desire to make a point.
