Chris was adamant about avoiding anything related with his own family. Chris equated them with his frustrations with society in general. The Westerbergs were something new for Chris. He felt they shared the same values as he did. Of course they were not family and Chris did not go through a lifetime of experience with them. Chris idealized them in a way that was not entirely fair to his real family.
