who was charlie? how was he different than chris? how were their philosophies on life different?

Charlie is the somewhat crazy old man who gives McCandless a mobile home to live in temporarily while he is in Bullhead City. Charlie like to stay put, whereas, he said that Chris was moody and seemed always to be looking for something.
