Uncle Willie ties his best to look "normal" at the store. He stands streight even though he is in pain. When the customers leave, he reaches for his cane. ''Uncle Willie was making his way down the long shadowed aisle between the shelves and the counter--hand over hand, like a man climbing out of a dream.''
