Malala is a strong girl, but over the course of the novel, she finds her true strength and individuality. She acts upon her beliefs, focuses on her education, and tries to teach others how important an education can be. Early in life, Malala's family didn't have much money, but over time.... he father's school took off. Malala, naturally bright, excelled.

When Malala was ten, the Taliban came to the valley, and Malala's world changed. Rules were implemented and enforced, but Malala refused to give up her educations. Malala spoke out against the Taliban, joining her father's voice with her own. She even wrote of her experiences under an assumed name.
