Esperanza and her mother have an excellent relationship. As far as what Esperanza learns from her mother.... that's something the reader discovers by reading between the lines. Esperanza is proud of her mother's accomplishments..... her ability to speak more than one language, her artistic talents, and her intelligence. Esperanza, however, often sees her mother as someone who settled..... someone who gave up on her dreams. From this, Esperanza learns that she wants more..... she wants to make her dreams come true.
