Why is Hagrid so surprised that Harry has not heard of Hogward before?

Hagrid s shocked to discover that Harry has no knowledge of Hogwarts or his own magical background, particularly in terms of his parent’s deaths. He scolds the Dursleys for keeping Harry from reading his letter and for treating him miserably throughout his life.
