"Founder crops' is a term used by Diamond to identify the plants that other cultures adopted to become food producers, which ''enabled local people to become sedentary, and thereby increased the likelihood of local crops' evolving from wild plants that were gathered, brought home and planted accidentally, and later planted intentionally.'' Those from Southwest Asia spread to three regions of the world and helped those cultures flourish as food producers.
