As readers, we generally trust Gulliver's statements irregardless of the fact that his tales involve fantastical beings and places. It isn't necessary for us to believe that the events he records actually happened, but rather, that we remember and learn the important lessons teaches though Gulliver's narration....... satirical as it is. In addition, the reader also tends to trust Gulliver because of his thoughtfulness and prudence in some ways, and also because of his willingness to relate both good news and bad news...... the good and bad things about different types of people without ever changing his tone.
