Are you asking how the book was received when it was first published (1860) as opposed to how it is seen now?

It ws liked then, but many people missed the earlier humor seen in Pickwick. Dickens was getting older and therefore gaining much more

life experience. His understanding of British law, transportation of criminals, hanging as punishment, people with money and/or position

treated differently than poor people, to state a few things.
