Pip receives a letter from Biddy informing him that Joe is coming to London with Mr. Wopsle and he wants to see Pip. Pip immediately notices a change in Joe when he arrives. Joe begins calling Pip sir and acting formal around him. This makes Pip feel uncomfortable and rather angry at himself for thinking that being a "gentleman " makes him better than the people he loves like Joe.
