Was Jerome mentally ill ?

Jerome was physically ill, and as a result, unhappy and suicidal. His illness left him unable to participate in his favorite activity and took away his motivation. Sadness, regret, and hopelessness are not mental illness..... they are emotions that everyone has to deal with on some level during their lifetimes.
