What does Walton learn about why Frankenstein has traveled to the North Pole?

When Frankenstein boards the ship, he is nearly frozen and completely fatigued. After he recovers a bit, Walton asks what he is doing up here. Frankenstein says he is tracking someone who fled from him, apparently, the large figure Walton and his men saw earlier.
