Everyman's family is represented by "Kindred and Cousin". They both make claims that they will support him no matter what, β€œIn wealth and woe we will with you hold, / For over his kin a man may be bold.” When they realize where Everyman is going (he has been summoned by Death) they make a hasty retreat. His Cousin even feigns a toe cramp. The theme here is that family, life friends, can be fickle. Loyalty only runs to a point.
