First of all, Tom is not evil. The only "wrong" thing that he has done was give his sister a drink ("salts") that he thought might help her stomach pain. Instead of helping the pain, it worsened it which ultimately caused her death. Tom never meant for any of that to happen. He was so guilt ridden that he committed suicide
