what are some of the advantages to democracy over aristocracy?

Aristocracy is power and wealth being only in the hands of a few elite members of society. We see this in places with a monarchy or top down system of government. The disadvantages of course wold be that the masses see nothing of this wealth or power. The aristocracy really does't have to answer the people for the wealth they hoard and squander or the power they can inflict. Democracy ensues that the interests of the masses are represented in the higher parts of the power make up of the state.
