Both ethnic groups fear the other. The whites fear the blacks due to sheer numbers and belief that the blacks are more prone to crime and violence. The native black population fears the white group due to the power and privilege that has been accorded to them. The white group is responsible for establishing and enforcing the laws. The blacks have beebread kept in ignorance of the latest farming technology and have also been relegated to the worst possible farming areas. This can easily be seen in the opening paragraphs of sections one and two. Due to this lack of opportunity, the blacks have turned to life in Johannesburg, where they go and do not return, hence the line that thevtribe is"broken."
