 Christabel frequently prays throughout the poem. Different critics contest why she ventures into the woods. Some claim it is because she ad dreamt of the woods earlier, some say she wanted to be closer to God, and others think going into the woods allows her to have sinful thoughts.   

She can get closer to God in her room also.

Christabel went to the wood to pray because at night the wood remains forlorn.The calmness of the wood helps her to pray attentively and she can easily then reach to the god.
