How does the war affect Ned?

Ned's participation in the Pacific Arena marks him as a hero. Although, he isn't allowed to talk about his role in the war for over twenty years, he later takes advantage of his right to talk about it and use it to teach his grandchildren why they should be proud of their culture and language. In the conclusion of his story, Ned ends with a message for the Navajo young people.... who he tells to embrace their culture and language. He sees his role, as well as the role of the other Navajo men who served, as something to be proud of.
