Code Talker

Joining the war effort as a Code Talker reunited Ned with his identity. He had been raised to believe that he should shun his heritage and speak English rather than his native language. Over the course of the story, however, Ned becomes a hero by using the very things he was forced to turn his back on. In the end, he embraces who he is, and he goes onto to teach his grandchildren the importance of embracing both their culture and language.
