"Cathedral," by Raymond Carver

In Raymond Carver's "Cathedral," the husband (bub) has an epiphany or awakening. What is it? And is this change genuine and lasting?

In drawing the cathedral, the narrator (husband) comes to understand what it means to see below the surface..... to truly see the things around him and embrace what is inside of him. Art has opened his world, and I believe the changes will be lasting.
