The repetition of Orr's behaviors foreshadows his eventual disappearance. Orr is engages in peculiar activities, such as putting together a faucet with almost invisible pieces, putting apples in his cheeks, and being beaten by a whore. For now, these incidents will remain obscure; only after Orr's disappearance will Yossarian realize what the motive is behind such strange behavior. Whether Orr's madness actually lets him see the light or whether Orr is a brilliant man who can pretend to be mad is never clearly determined.
