why are Thornton and buck a perfect match

Having frozen his feet that past December, John walks with a slight limp. Buck also walks with a limp from swollen muscles. Both need rest, food ,and warmth. He and Buck convalesce together, both growing stronger in the beautiful, warm weather. Both have a deep respect for each other.
