We aren't afforded a detailed description of Grendel in the text. He's a loner, fatherless, a deadly combatant, and a killer. Grendel is a man-eater and cannot be harmed by a blade, thus, Hrothgar has found it impossible to drive Grendel from his lands or kill him. Grenel is described as a demon.
