Jalcocotbn is described as a mountain village founded by Indian ancestors. Its location was chosen because it offered a natural protection from intruders, as well as the harsh wind and sun. Outsiders can only reach the village by climbing steep, rocky trails. The villagers travel by secret footpaths that begin in the village and move into the forest before paving the way up higher on the mountain. These secret paths also provided an escape route in the event the village was attacked. The forest surrounding the village is immense and heavily populated with many different types of birds.
