Atonement

Atonement

Did Robbie really come home to Cecilia or was that just a figment of Briony Tallis' fantasies and what she imagined when she met Cecilia didn't actually happen? Also, did she really meet her sister or was it again just a figment of her fantasies?

Robbie and Cecelia never reunited outside of Briony's story, they died during the war. Briony never saw her sister again. This wasn't, however, a figment of her imagination. Briony informs her reader that she has made up the part about visiting Cecilia and Robbie in London and how both people died in the war. Her act to let their love last forever in the pages of her book will be her final atonement to her crime.
