How does Verne poryray native peoples?

What does this say about the society at the time in which this book was published?

Places like India and Hong Kong hugely display the effects of colonization; mixed in with native cultures and customs are traces of English influence. Many native people are portrayed in a derogatory Eurocentric way. This certainly fit the era it was written in.
