How would you describe the speakers attitude toward his death?

The speaker seems to be just telling the story of his death in a relatively calm and unemotional way. The fact that he is describing his death in a relatively violent way and simply just talking about it seems completely surprising. The reader might have expected him to be more emotional about something so dramatic as death in a war.
