Explain the ending to me

Did HG Wells make a point at the end of the story? Was anything resolved for Ann Veronica beside the fact that her aunt and father accepted her "marriage"? Is she her own person, or a person in love with Capes? I thought the ending just dropped off without sufficient explanation.
