what were the benefits of the humans being gone

The animals worked for themselves, had the biggest harvest ever, found more time for leisure, and had more to eat. Because their needs were met, they did not steal, fight, or experience jealousy. No one worked on Sundays. These benefits are detailed in Chapter Three of the novel.
