Napoleon might have started out on side with Old Major but his taste of power drew him closer to an ultimate dictatorship. As the story continues, Napoleon becomes more oppressive to the other animals,

"Throughout the spring and summer they worked a sixty-hour week, and in August Napoleon announced that there would be work on Sunday afternoons as well. This work was strictly voluntary, but any animal who absented himself from it would have his rations reduced by half. "

Like many dictators, Napoleon shut himself away creating a mystery of fear and intimidation,

"Napoleon rarely appeared in public, but spent all his time in the farmhouse, which was guarded at each door by fierce-looking dogs. "

By the end, Napoleon had crowned himself "Emperor" and behaved no differently than evil humans.
