Frank's interactions with Patricia serve assauge his loneliness. The two never see each other but communicate through the walls of their neighboring rooms. Patricia lends Frank books, introduces him to Shakespeare, and because of their relationship is not held back in school. She provides him with an education that he would never have found elsewhere.
