Act 1? Once the women leave the men are free to let down their guard, drink their after dinner cocktails, smoke their cigars, and freely talk about whatever they wish. The custom of the "women leaving the men to their port," intended that both men and women share more comfortable conversation after dinner than the small talk they share during dinner.
