Chapter 38 Since taking the Hailey case, Brigance has thrown up twice. Why does he throw up now?

In Chapter 38, Bass is discredited by Buckley when Buckley exposes the fact that Bass pled guilty to statutory rape in 1956. Brigance, knowing the damage this revelation will do to his case, goes to the restroom to vomit.
