You have too many questions for this short space. I'll handle your first two. Norman has spent his life following his little brother. Paul is larger than life. He does everything in a big way. Norman has trouble living up to Paul's brightness as well as recklessness. In adulthood Norman tries hard to keep his brother in check. Paul does everything to excess. Unfortunately this includes drinking and gambling. Norman tries his best to help Paul but it is not within Paul's nature to accept it. Paul loves his brother. He won't accept help from Paul but just likes his brother trying to help him.
